Tap

Tap Dance, apart from being an essential skill for the professional dancer, is one of the most enjoyable and rhythmic forms of recreational dance. It can trace its history to the clogging popularised in the mill towns of the north of England as well as the American style that grew up in the "deep south" alongside jazz music. Many a film featured stars such as Will Gaines and Gregory Hines with their own speciality steps. As Gregory Hines said "Tap is here, it's now". The latest music styles have been adopted by the tap masters of today as can be seen in such shows as Tap Dogs.

The Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing recently recognised the ongoing importance and popularity of Tap Dance by giving it its own Faculty, having formerly been a part of the Modern Theatre Dance Faculty.
